Facts and Figures

Once a major industrial region, the North East has a former mining population of over 650,000, more than a quarter of the entire region. The coalfield communities stretch from Alnwick in Northumberland down to Easington, Sedgefield and Stanley in County Durham. This makes it one of the largest regions, covering 125 wards over 11 districts, Northumberland, Durham and the major conurbation of Tyne and Wear.

Since the trust was launched in 1999 we have made grants totalling nearly £26 million to around 800 North East groups.

The grants awarded have covered the full breadth of regeneration themes and successful groups and organisations obtaining funding have been as diverse as the communities we serve.
