Blyth Tall ShipsBlyth Tall Ships Project

Blyth Tall Ships Project is about recapturing the spirit of adventure, global entrepreneurship and renewable energy use that was employed in Blyth to discover new land in the Antarctic Ocean 2000 years ago in a sailing ship called the William's, to inspire future generations to fulfil their full potential through hands on learning experiences that feed in to careers in the expanding offshore and engineering industries in the area.

This is being achieved by:

  • Restoring an historic workshop at the Quayside and running boat building and restoration skills experiences leading to full engineering Apprenticeships.
  • Building a modern version of the Brig William's  that can recreate the original voyage to the Antarctic with young people from Blyth as crew.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust has funded £87, 885 to kick-start the project to enable the training of local young people not in training or education to be inspired through the project to learn about marine engineering, renewable energy sail training and adventure activities. The project will deliver accredited training and to identify talented young people to support them into local engineering businesses.
