Employer Charter
For employers tackling worklessness in coalfield communities, supporting you in recruitment & retaining staff
As an employer we recognise that:
People who are long term unemployed may have experienced discrimination in recruitment and selection procedures. This may discourage them from seeking work.
- Whilst some people will acknowledge their experience of being unable to find work in a frank and open way, others may have lost their self-esteem and feel the stigma of unemployment will jeopardise their chances of getting a job.
- Given appropriate support, the vast majority of people who have been out of the labour market for a variety of reasons can continue to work successfully.
As an employer we aim to:
- Show a positive and enabling attitude to employees and job applicants who have been long term unemployed. This will include positive statements in local recruitment literature.
- Ensure that all staff involved in recruitment and selection are briefed on tackling worklessness and given appropriate interview skills
- Not make assumptions that a person who has been long term unemployed is less capable than any other potential employee.
- Provide non-judgemental and proactive support to individuals who have been unable to secure employment over a period of time.
- Ensure all line managers and staff involved in procurement have information on procedures relating to the recruitment of staff through the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
