The Coalfields Regeneration Trust has championed the role sport and physical activity can play for the last 20 years.
The Trust recognises the need to continue engaging with young people from our most deprived former mining areas, and the importance of introducing them to the life-changing benefits of sport.
Game On is the Trust’s Sport for Change programme, which through direct delivery of sport-based activity for the last 13 years has helped people in some of our most disadvantaged coalfield communities gain new skills, achieve qualifications, find work and become more active – making lives better through sport.
In 2016, England’s former mining communities were faced with great difficulty when delivery of Game On England stopped. Thankfully, the once national Game On England programme was reintroduced in April 2018 focusing on Yorkshire’s most challenged ex-mining areas.
Now we’re working hard to expand our delivery, and approach of using sport intentionally to bring about positive benefits for individuals and our communities, into the East Midlands.
We also have various coaching vacancies available if you’d like to help train young footballers from our coalfields.
Free evening diversionary turn up and play football activity for young people, providing them with a positive activity to engage in.
