The Coalfields Community Investment Programme – Funding Support

We know that one of the most common barriers to addressing the challenges in the coalfields are resources, which is why we put together the Coalfields Community Investment Programme (CCIP).

CCIP delivers grants from a £500,000 funding pot to voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations to help them deliver projects in the top 30% most deprived coalfield areas.

The projects we help fund cover three different themes – skills, employment and health & wellbeing – all of which can have an enormous impact on the lives of everyday people struggling in ex-mining towns and villages.

Our awardees have worked on all different kinds of things – we’ve helped fund employability training, IT skills workshops, language classes, after-school sports clubs, refugee and asylum seeker support, to more interesting ideas like therapeutic gardening sessions.

Unfortunately, we cannot help fund capital costs, but we are able to fund core costs up to 50% of the total amount requested. This can include operational costs, as well as administration and management.

We decide how the fund will be distributed at four decision making committees held quarterly between the 1 April 2020 to 31st March 2021 (£125,000 per committee):

March 2020 Committee – The Eligibility survey opens on 16th December 2019 and closes at 5pm on 28th February 2020. The deadline for applications is 13th March 2020 at 5pm

July 2020 Committee – The Eligibility survey opens on 16th March 2020 and closes at 5pm on 22nd May 2020. The deadline for applications is 5th June 2020 at 5pm

October 2020 Committee – The Eligibility survey opens on 8th June 2020 and closes at 5pm on 28th August 2020. The deadline for applications is 11th September 2020 at 5pm

January 2021 Committee – The Eligibility survey opens on 14th September 2020 and closes at 5pm on 27th November 2020. The deadline for applications is 11th December 2020 at 5pm

The Coalfields Community Investment Programme is always met with high demand. Last year the number of successful awards was just 22% of the total applications received.

CCIP – Practical Support

funding-england

The Coalfields Community Investment Programme (CCIP) does more than provide funding, it provides a helping hand.

Several years ago we realised that whilst we were doing all we could to help provide resources for the coalfields, we weren’t giving VCAS organisations the advice and support needed to help coalfield communities achieve their full potential.

That’s because being a coalfield organisation can sometimes be difficult. There can be times when you feel like you’re struggling to keep things afloat for the community and have no one to turn to.

There can be tens and hundreds of different funding providers and working out who is most likely to give you the financial aid you really need can seem impossible.

Or maybe you know exactly what you need to do, but you just lack the information and statistics to illustrate why your cause is such an important one.

That’s why we came up with our free “Practical Support” service, so we can meet with coalfield organisations face to face, listen to their problems and help them find a solution.

We’ve got 20 years of experience serving coalfield communities, and can use all that knowledge to provide essential advice and guidance which should help put you on track for a sustainable future.

There’s no need to tackle complex applications for funding on your own, we’ll review a claim for any funder for you.

On top of that we have an enormous amount of data to offer; from detailed local statistic reports, specialist GrantFinder software, to a massive online resource library.

In time, we hope that the over 300 organisations signed up for practical support will share their own experiences through our networking opportunities, and find ways to work together to generate income.

By doing this, we’re working towards our CCIP objectives of building the capacity of coalfield organisations to help them become more sustainable, developing a membership of connected coalfield organisations across England, who can share good practice and respond to local needs, and creating joint-working and income generation opportunities.
