Following the success of Game On, the award-winning Sport for Change programme, we have decided to bring back the initiative and also extend its impact across our coalfield communities.
Re-establishing the programme, with an initial focus of developing provision throughout Yorkshire, Game On provides young people from some of the most disadvantaged coalfield communities with access to structured football sessions, which encourages positive social engagement and learning through a healthy, popular and active pastime.
Game On has played a significant role in addressing the growing health, skills and employment inequalities that former coalmining communities face and we have seen first-hand the impact it can have on self-esteem and the part it can play in preventing anti-social behaviour.
The programme has had such a positive impact and has delivered some incredible results, which have been found to tackle anti-social behaviour whilst also improving the general health and fitness of the young people that take part.
