The Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT) has awarded £2,080 to the Salsburgh Boxing Club to fund new equipment for the venue.
Located in North Lanarkshire the Salsburgh Boxing Club plays an integral role in the area, providing a much needed outlet for young people interested in getting into sports.
The venue is open to all and offers training on a weekly basis for members. Although primarily aimed at competitive training, there are opportunities for those keen to take part to get fit and become part of the boxing community in North Lanarkshire.
As a newly established venture, the £2,080 awarded to the club will support its continued growth. New equipment will facilitate the club’s ability to meet increasing demand, as well as ensuring safe Covid practices are adhered to as life returns to normal, creating a clean and safe club for all.
Bob Young, CRT Trustee in Scotland, said: “We’re thrilled to support the growing and thriving Salsburgh Boxing Club by providing funding for much-needed new equipment. It is so important to have venues like this where young people can go, dive into an activity and escape from the stresses of everyday life. It is fantastic to see the potential of the Club as it continues to expand, and the positive impact it is creating in the local community.”
Trevor Johnstone of Salsburgh Boxing Club, added: “The support from CRT has enabled us to purchase new equipment to operate in line with Boxing Scotland’s standards. As a result of this we have been assessed by Boxing Scotland and have been granted Affiliation. We can now compete in national championships and our boxers can set their sights on representing Scotland in the future.
“We are very grateful for the support and aim to achieve big things this year.”
