The Places with Purpose Report

Our industrial cities, towns and communities all have pasts to be proud of. They have a distinctive economic and social heritage and strong traditions and spirits. The task in all our towns, big and small, is to take our places forward.

Looking back and building on our pasts is valuable but in many cases it is not enough to guarantee successful futures. Successful places are those with purpose, that are forward and outward looking.

In this report we contributed to the setting out of not only the offer that our cities and towns can bring to the UK economy, but also the policies that need to be put in place to help deliver their full potential. There are also examples of how places across the country have set about reinventing themselves.
