Coalfields Longannet Initiative

CRT introduced The Coalfield Longannet Initiative to our portfolio in 2016; two months after Scottish Power announced the early closure of their Longannet Power Station.

The CRT team immediately recognised the need for additional, targeted support for the Longannet communities to address the impact this will have on the local economy.

CRT, by bringing together 12 local communities developed ‘The Vision for the Longannet Communities’, which outlined community concerns and priorities.

In November 2018 Scottish enterprise took the lead role, in developing this site, and key to their plans, is an investment by TALGO a worldwide manufacturer of high speed trains, their investment should create in excess of 1,000 jobs.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and the communities and residents must be prepared to grasp at this opportunity to make sure there is maximum benefit across the villages

In preparation, CRT in partnership with local community organizations, namely, Go Forth Kincardine and Longannet Initiative Strategic Partnership, we have been working to develop the Coalfields Employment Initiative, which will respond to the challenges that exist in the communities.

Community Partners

We continue to work in partnership with the Longannet Communities through Longannet Strategic Initiative Partnership (LISP).  LISP is made up of representatives from the communities and local groups who have a shared vision to improve the regeneration of the area through partnership working and coordinating activities.

Go Forth Kincardine are the local recently formed anchor group in Kincardine that will take  forward the charrette projects linked to the community.

CRT are also working in partnership with Sustrans and other funders to take forward some of the major projects that have risen from the 2016 charrette.
