Since 2013, our work in Knottingley has been shaped by a series of long-term decisions — all rooted in one simple idea: understanding what the community needs and responding in a way that lasts.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust has worked across the Five Towns for more than two decades, but in Knottingley, that commitment can be clearly seen through how we’ve chosen to invest, support and stay.

In 2013, we invested £1.6 million to purchase properties at Hill Top — creating a base in the community to build from over time.

In 2021, we chose to support Community Shop by offering space rent-free, forgoing around £70,000 each year to ensure a vital local service remains accessible.

In 2022, we completed Weeland Park in nearby Kellingley — a £3.2 million development built on the site of the last deep coal mine in Britain. The site now provides space for local businesses, creating jobs and generating income that supports our work across the Five Towns.

These decisions are connected.

By investing in place, we create income that can be reinvested back into communities — supporting people, local organisations and opportunities over the long term.

Alongside this, we continue working directly with people across Knottingley and the Five Towns — supporting health and wellbeing, creating opportunities for young people, and backing local organisations through funding and practical support.

Taken together, this work reflects something simple but important: we don’t see regeneration as a short-term project. It’s about building trust over time, supporting what already exists locally, and helping communities shape their own future.

The next chapter: CRT Knottingley Hub

The latest step in this journey is the CRT Knottingley Hub, opened 5th March 2026.

The CRT Knottingley Hub brings together support, activity and community connection in one welcoming, accessible space. It’s a place where local people can take part in sessions, access support, and connect with others — and where organisations can deliver services in the heart of the community.

By choosing to use the building for community benefit, we’re creating long-term social value, investing around £50,000 each year into local people and organisations.

At the CRT Knottingley Hub, you can:

  • Take part in health, wellbeing and community activities
  • Access one-to-one support and guidance
  • Connect with local groups and services
  • Use or book space as a community organisation

Whether you’re looking for support, want to get involved, or are interested in using the space, we’d love to hear from you.

Because this isn’t the end of the story in Knottingley — it’s simply the next chapter.
