Young people across Knottingley and Ferrybridge are getting more opportunities to be active, connect with others and enjoy sport thanks to the continued delivery of Coalfields Regeneration Trust’s CRT Game On programme.
Across the two communities, CRT Game On now delivers weekly sessions that give young people free access to sport and activities in safe, welcoming environments. From football to multi-sports, the sessions are designed to be open, inclusive and easy to access.
CRT Game On Knottingley 5ives takes place every Friday evening at De Lacy Academy, offering free turn-up-and-play football for young people aged 11–18.
The session has long been one of the most popular activities for young people in the area. In 2025, it regularly attracted more than 150 participants each week.
Although the session was temporarily paused, it has now successfully relaunched with strengthened partnerships and improved delivery arrangements.
Working closely with De Lacy Academy and Triple J Lettings, new procedures have been put in place to support the safe and effective running of the sessions.
Since returning on 27 February, the programme has already welcomed more than 100 young people — demonstrating just how important the provision is for the community.
CRT Game On also runs a weekly multi-sports session at Ferrybridge Community Centre.
The session was introduced following the closure of the local youth club, helping to ensure young people in the area still had somewhere to go and something positive to take part in.
Delivered in partnership with the Community Centre and supported by local volunteers, the sessions combine youth activities with multi-sports coaching from CRT.
Since launching in November 2025, around 30 young people have attended each week.
CRT Game On is also preparing to launch a new football session aimed at younger children aged 5–10.
Working in partnership with Kellingley Welfare FC and two local volunteers, the free turn-up-and-play session will introduce younger children to football in a fun and welcoming environment.
The initiative aims to support the development of grassroots teams in Knottingley and Ferrybridge while giving local volunteers the opportunity to gain coaching and delivery experience.
Together, these sessions show the difference accessible activities can make for young people in local communities.
By providing free opportunities to be active, meet friends and develop confidence, CRT Game On continues to support young people across Knottingley and Ferrybridge.
It is part of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust’s long-term commitment to the area, helping create opportunities for people and communities across the Five Towns.
