CRT Support Grants Available in Wales

Community facilities are at the heart of life in coalfield areas — providing vital spaces for health, wellbeing, learning, and connection. That’s why the Coalfields Regeneration Trust is delivering £150,000 of Welsh Government funding to support the organisations that manage them.

Through our CRT Support grants, we are offering two targeted funding streams to help safeguard, improve, and maintain community assets in eligible Welsh coalfield communities. Whether you’re planning physical improvements or need expert guidance before taking the next step, our funding is here to help — and applications are open all year round.

To be eligible for either CRT Support grant, organisations must be based in or delivering clear benefits in a Welsh coalfield community.

Capital Grant – Supporting the Future of Community Facilities

Surveys and Professional Fees – Helping You Plan with Confidence

The Capital Grant offers awards of £500 to £7,000 to support improvements to community buildings and spaces. It can help with essential repairs, refurbishments, energy efficiency measures, or the purchase of equipment that enhances the functionality and sustainability of your facility.

This grant is ideal for community and voluntary organisations that are managing spaces used for social, health, educational or recreational purposes — especially those in need of investment to keep those spaces safe, welcoming, and accessible.

Who can apply?

Organisations based in or delivering clear benefits to an eligible Welsh coalfield community
Groups with annual unrestricted income under £500,000
Organisations that own the facility or hold a full repairing and insuring lease (minimum 5 years)
Capital-only costs (surveys and fees not eligible under this stream)

As a new addition to our CRT Support grants, we’re now able to fund professional surveys and assessments to help organisations plan for the future. This new grant is designed to help you understand the current condition of your community asset, identify priorities, and build a strong case for future funding or improvements.

Eligible surveys include (but are not limited to):

Building Condition Survey with 5-Year Maintenance Plan
Asbestos Survey
Energy Efficiency Survey
Damp or Structural Survey

This support can be especially helpful if you are unsure where to start, or if you’re preparing for a larger capital project.
