New Free Football Sessions for Young People in Horden

A brand-new CRT Game On session is kicking off in Horden, County Durham, giving young people between the ages of 11–18 a free, safe and welcoming place to play football every week.

Sessions take place every Tuesday from 5pm to 6:30pm at Dene Academy and are delivered in partnership with Groundwork NE and Durham County Council - Move. Open to all abilities, the sessions are designed to help young people stay active, gain confidence, and build skills – on and off the pitch.

In Horden, the session builds on our strong partnership with Groundwork North East, following the success of a similar project in nearby Shotton. By adding a dedicated CRT Game On coach, we’re strengthening the sports element of an already popular local offer – creating new opportunities for young people in the local community.

Part of a wider place-based offer in Horden

This session is the latest addition to CRT’s long-term, place-based approach in Horden. Since opening the CRT Horden Hub House in 2017, we’ve worked alongside residents and partners to create real, lasting change in one of the most disadvantaged communities in the UK.

From the CRT Horden Hub House, CRT and partners deliver everything from wellbeing support and recovery groups to job advice and housing support. We’ve brought in a person-centred offer through CRT Engage, supported 10 local organisations through CRT Support, and helped secure over £75,000 in funding for local projects.

Now, with CRT Game On in the mix, we’re using the power of sport to expand the offer – proving young people with a place to be safe and active on their doorstep.
