A group of community members from our weekly CRT Engage Tai Chi session in Weston Coyney enjoyed a very special outing last Friday — as guests of the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Stoke-on-Trent.
Led by CRT Engage Health and Wellbeing Coach Kirstie, the group was invited to the Lord Mayor’s Chambers for a personal tour and conversation about the role of health and wellbeing in strengthening communities.
The group received a guided tour of the council chambers and had the rare opportunity to view a fascinating collection of ceremonial gifts and artefacts. These items — donated over many decades by domestic and international dignitaries — offer a glimpse into the city’s proud history and international connections.
During the visit, the group spoke with the Lord Mayor about the personal and collective benefits of attending weekly exercise sessions, and Kirstie shared insight into the wider work CRT Engage is delivering across the city.
This invitation reflects the growing recognition of the positive impact community programmes like CRT Engage are having across Stoke-on-Trent and other coalfield areas. By offering regular, welcoming sessions in accessible spaces, CRT Engage helps people build confidence, stay active, and connect with their community.
We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress for their time, warmth, and hospitality. We look forward to welcoming them to future community events and continuing to work together to help coalfield communities reach their full potential.
