The Coalfields Regeneration Trust has officially opened the new CRT Knottingley Hub, creating a high street community facility at Hill Top, Knottingley.
The CRT Knottingley Hub provides people with access to one-to-one support from CRT coaches, health and wellbeing activities, and opportunities to build confidence and skills, all under one roof.
It also provides space for grassroots organisations to deliver services, benefiting the wider community across Knottingley and the wider Five Towns.
The opening was marked by a visit from the Minister of State for Care, Stephen Kinnock MP, who was given a tour of the new facility by Coalfields Regeneration Trust Chief Executive, Andy Lock and Chair, Linda McAvan. As part of the tour, the minister met with CRT coaches and some local people who have been helped by the services which will now be based at the CRT Knottingley Hub.
The launch event was also attended by local partners, including representatives of community organisations, the NHS and health care services and local elected representatives.
The opening of the CRT Knottingley Hub represents a deepening of the long-term investment made by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust to help the community in Knottingley and the Five Towns.
The CRT has played a significant role in the Knottingley community since 2013. In 2021, it partnered with Community Shop, providing them with a building rent free so that they can help support people in food poverty.
The following year, the CRT’s subsidiary, CRT Property, completed a £3.2 million industrial development on the site of the former Kellingley Colliery, half funded by Leeds City Region LEP, which has created jobs and economic growth in the area.
Today’s opening of the CRT Knottingley Hub is the Coalfields Regeneration Trust’s latest project and a sign of the CRT’s commitment to the Five Towns.
“From local businesses to community buildings, health and skills – the Coalfields Regeneration Trust has invested £4 million in Knottingley and the Five Towns since 2013 to create long-term opportunities for all.
“The CRT Knottingley Hub isn’t the end of our work in Knottingley and the Five Towns – it’s another step in a long-term commitment to the community and its future.”
"I was delighted to come to Knottingley today to open its new wellbeing hub. I know only too well the particular challenges that former mining communities have faced over the years, and how important it is to have local services that people can really rely on
"The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is doing outstanding work and showing how brilliant organisations can work with the NHS to deliver care local people need, right on their doorsteps. This is a great example of what our 10 Year Health Plan is all about - bringing care closer to community, shifting the focus from sickness to prevention, and getting our NHS working for local people."
