Residents in Horden had the opportunity to connect directly with local employers this month as the village hosted its first-ever Jobs Fair.
The event was delivered through partnership working between CRT and Jobcentre Plus Peterlee, bringing employment and training opportunities directly into the local community.
A total of 126 residents attended, meeting with employers and training providers who all had live vacancies or training opportunities available on the day.
The Jobs Fair brought together a range of organisations from across the region, giving residents the chance to speak directly with employers about available roles and training opportunities.
Organisations attending included:
The event also welcomed Connect to Work (Triage), who attended to introduce their services to employers and support their clients by accompanying them to the fair.
Employers reported strong engagement with residents and immediate recruitment prospects as a result of the event.
For Arden Security, a new business, the event also provided valuable networking opportunities and helped build confidence about recruiting locally.
Residents also shared very positive feedback about the event.
Many welcomed the opportunity to attend a jobs fair within their own village, removing the need to travel elsewhere. Attendees also valued the chance to speak directly with employers, rather than relying solely on online applications where feedback can often be limited.
There was also a strong sense of pride among residents that Horden was hosting a positive community event, helping to highlight the proactive work taking place locally.
Following the success of the event, CRT and Jobcentre Plus Peterlee have begun discussions about delivering similar jobs fairs in other communities.
The event demonstrated the value of bringing employers and opportunities directly into local communities, helping residents access support and employment opportunities closer to home.
